Students & Scholarships

Hume Council has allocated over $76,000 in Education Scholarships for 2026, benefiting 59 transitioning Grade Six students. Each student will receive $1,300 to help cover secondary school costs like uniforms, books, and laptops. This funding is directly paid to their new high school.

The annual program, running since 1999, supports a smooth transition and recognises students' achievements and leadership. Cr Ally Watson emphasised the commitment to providing necessary resources for Hume's youth.  [ INFO ]

Sunbury Streetlife Festival

It’s Sunbury’s most anticipated event of the year. The Sunbury Streetlife Festival, when the community get together to showcase the diverse and unique place that it is. The Festival transforms the main street into a hive of activity with stalls, live music and great food. This is a free event and I urge anyone who wants to have a great day out to get down there and support the locals.

Check out Whats On [ Here ] Sunday, 23rd November from 10am to 4pm

Sunbury Art & Craft Sale

Three local art groups have gotten together for an art and craft Sale Event. It is a chance to find that unique gift that is done by hand which makes it all that more special. There is nothing over $120 and you’ll get to see what the artists have made over the year. There will be a wide range to choose from, like jewellery, pottery, and woodworking products.

The Art and Craft Studio Sale will be held at the Goonawarra Community Centre over the 22nd and 23rd of November, from 10am to 4pm each day. [ INFO ]

Humes Local Heroes

Each week, it strikes me how generous this area is. I discovered that we all have a big heart and support those in need. Why I am blown away is, we have locals going above and beyond for others. The Hume area has a generous spirit, and nobody points that out. Thank you, Awesome Hume’ns.

Side by Side Against Lymphoma Event

I wanted to highlight two brothers, Ned (24) and Flynn (22) who are awesome Humen’s helping out to raise awareness for a mate who has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Josh (22) was diagnosed earlier this year (2025) and his 2 mates are running 100km from Tootgarook to Airport West Football Club, their local footy club. This group of mates are showing the very best of humanity by supporting Josh in his time of need. As their Facebook event page states -

Their goal? To raise awareness: get lumps and bumps checked, don’t wait—ACT!
We’re running 100km for our friend and brother Josh as he bravely battles Lymphoma. From one of his homes to the other, every step is in solidarity, strength, and support. There will be a family BBQ and festivities from 5pm, where you can cheer the boys home. Come along, wear green and enjoy the hospitality. Whether you run, cheer us on, or simply wear green – your support means the world.

Lets get behind Josh and the Boys and help raise some funds and awareness. [ event details ] [ support the cause ]
