Langama Park Is Back

After renovations have closed the place for a few months the Sunbury United Sporting Club is finally reopening it’s doors. The place is becoming an institution with all the events and shows they hold not to mention the sports teams that also call Langama Park home. Welcome back guys.

Works start on Greenvale Reservoir for reopen

Something that has been a long time coming, is getting one of our beloved green spaces back. As a kid, I have fond memories of having BBQ’s there. When the reservoir was closed for upgrades the community had lost a space that was treasured by so many, because it provided everyone with so many memories of good times. It was pleasing to see that this week, there was an announcement that works has started, as they are giving back some of the park. Because of the significance the reservoir plays in the water supply system we will only be getting back a smaller portion of the area, but little is better than nothing. It is due to open up by end of the year. [ INFO ]

Gladstone park shopping centre rival

Gladstone Park Shopping Centre looks like it is having a revival of sorts. Although, it could be mistaken for a relic of the past and a place where you either go the doctors, or do you shopping and that’s it. Gladdy Shopping Centre has 3 new retail shops open up in the past month. Nells, Fresco and karelay pastries. It looks like a theme here, (food).

Nells is a Sandwich shop that has some of the most sumptuous sandwiches in the area and to wash it all down they offer juices, smoothies and all things you want if you’re conscious about you weight, health and taste.

Fresco’s is the new cafe on the block with a small menus mainly fresh sangas and yummy pastries. The main thing they are good at is coffee. They make a mean cappuccino. It’s a place where you can go, take a minute and enjoy life in modern surroundings.

Karelay Patisserie as the name suggests is a new shop offering pastries, as well as gozleme and coffee. Although they were due to open this weekend the opening is now looking more like 13th of September. After having a chat to the owners, I will do another Grand opening article next week.

Craigieburn gets a new weekend market

The Hume Community Market Group, the ones that bring you the Greenvale market are opening a market in Craigieburn. The new location will be opposite Craigieburn Village Shopping Centre at Grand Boulevard Reserve. So if you're looking for a Father’s Day present, the market is a perfect option for you this Saturday. It will be ongoing once a month on a Saturday. [ INFO ]

Box Divvy is coming to Sunbury

There’s nothing new about companies delivering straight from the farmer to the consumer. What makes this business different is, it’s a community-led fresh produce company called Box Divvy, who are launching in Victoria. They will be coming to Sunbury in the next month. Box Divvy are trying to make it a fairer, more affordable alternative to supermarket shopping and with the benefit of helping out the farmer. [ INFO ]

New Scout Hall for Kalkallo

A new facility has been opened this week at Gilgai Plains Primary School for local Scouts and Girl Guides. The hall has been strategically placed next to the Kalkallo Recreation Reserve. The idea behind the new hall is to not only create a space for scouts and girl guides but to serve as a meeting place for youth and the wider community. [ INFO ]

Restaurant pick of the Week

Basq Restaurant

A place nestled amongst car yards seems odd but this beautifully designed restaurant has the look and feel of a swiss chalet in the middle of Essendon fields. If you're looking for a bit of an extra special dining experience this is the place. They cater for all occasions and even have a special event room for bigger groups. If you like the finer things in life then I strongly recommend you dine here at least once, go on, you deserve it. Oh, and don’t skip dessert. [ INFO ]
