Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area).

Normally this publication is upbeat to showcase the awesome people of the Hume area, events and positive news, but I feel this one needs to be written.

In this week’s Humepulse edition:

Council has agreed to a 12-month car share pilot program, allocating three car parking spaces across Craigieburn and Roxburgh Park. The service will be independently run by Go Get. A report will be presented to Council following the trial.

The latest proposed project is a Data centre on the Old Ford Site in Upfield. This project is so big that the data centre is over 2 lots and 6 sheds. The initial injection of project building money will be a dangling carrot to persuade the permit process but what happens to the community? Consider the well documented health risks that we all have to live with into future. This week a petition has now been setup to oppose the Data Centre.

Why is this a big deal? We currently have in our municipality 7 applications for permits for water allocation from yarra water. This will be number eight. Not to mention our area already houses at least 4 Data centres. We also have a proposal for a waste to incinerator project between Bulla and Sunbury. I ask, where is the water coming from? Greenvale Reservoir! Our drinking water. One Data Centre application near Mickleham will use the equivalent of Craigieburns water useage for a year. Let’s not allow this to happen!!

The council has sounded the alarm on the data centre apocalypse and have also written to the Government to let them know they oppose the Waste to incinerator project.

We need to fight for our future, if we want to have a place with clean air, water and place that is as beautiful as it is today.

While we are talking big business, Amazon Craigieburn has achieved Zero Carbon Certification. At least Amazon have tried to make a lighter footprint on the area. I don’t think they really had to try too hard as the size of the roof space they have would power a few suburbs. I guess credit is due where credit is due. Good on them. [ INFO ]

For all your little feet needs, Williams in Broadmeadows Shopping centre have now introduced THE TRYBE. A kids shoe store that has some of the latest trends and lets face it, it’ll be the talk of the schoolyard. The range, is from all the big name brands as well as a few others. Finally, a shoe store dedicated just for them. [ INFO ]
