The Music God’s are in full swing this weekend. Rock On!! See you at the Festival. If you can’t make the festival then at least you can catch another gig in our great backyard.

This weeks Council meeting was attended by concerned residents and the No waste Incenerator Group from Sunbury and Wollert. The council handed in its position on the two proposed Waste to Energy facilities in its submission to the state government’s Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee’s inquiry into the development and expansion of WTE infrastructure in Victoria. With a resounding ‘No’ to the proposals by the council, the residents also had their say. Cr Hamely also revealed that she lived only a kilometer away from the proposed site and the impacts to her health if it went ahead. One thing that surprised me is that we already have a Waste to Energy facility in the Hume area, Cr Kurt revealed that the Visy Paper Site in Coolaroo has been running for many years and acknowledged the poor air quality in Meadow heights a surburb near by. The Strike action is continuing with an impact of 26,000 red lid bins not being emptied. Mayor Carly Moore gave an update on the issue this week in the Council meeting on Monday. If anyone is familiar with St Josephs Primary School they would know that it is on a major rd. Camp road is notorious for traffic and I really can’t imagine why it has taken this long to even have been suggested. It took a petition by students to have anything done about it. We thought we would add events that are free or cost very little to attend. Check out the Council Calendar for this week [ INFO ]

Now this one is out of left field and I just had to add this one in. It’s not everyday you find unique events in the area. So, as the Headline say’s “Drone Soccer“, I have very little to go by to fill you in about what Drone Soccer is, but it seems to be pretty self explainatory. You don’t have to be any good at it, all you need to do is book a session time at Broadmeadows Courts, at the back of the Aquatic Centre and the group running this event will teach you everything you need to know. It’s on This Saturday the 18th April. I for one will be going down there to check it out and have a go to satify my curiosity [ INFO ] Netball Courts, 41-85 Tanderrum Way, Broadmeadows VIC 3047.

We found this one and it looks to be something with more substance than the last few. They have paid spots and are calling for extras as well. Who knows you could get to be on TV as well. [ INFO ]

The Hume area is not new to dealing with toxic fires that create poor health conditions and air quality issues. It’s good to see the EPA have slapped a business on the wrists. I hope this is a further deterent to other rogue businesses who think this type of business model is ok. [ INFO ]

This coming Thursday the 23rd of April, Banksia Gardens are hosting a local Chef at their Common Bean Cafe located inside Kangan Tafe in Broadmeadows. What makes this special is, you will be treated to authentic Mexican food cooked by a local resident and guest chef Silvia. It is very rare to have such an opportunity to have this type of foodie experience. Now I’m going to put it out there, that you will start to see this as a trend whereby restaurants will start to host locals for those authentic home cooked meals we all secretly want to try. If you taste Silvias food your tastebuds will let you know, you made the right decision. [ INFO ]

This Festival has made rock legends, spawned iconic music record labels and became folklore for a generation. This is our version of Woodstock or should I say Coachella? Whatever your music taste is this event has a full day of live Australian music including, headline act Marcia Hines with other performances from the Rogue Traders, Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers and too many to mention. This is the last of the Hume major events calendar until the end of the year. So it’s time to raise your hands like you just don’t care and have an awesome day of Music, dancing and just plain old enjoying yourself. Saturday 18th April at the Nook Sunbury

Why should the music stop? You have had an awesome day of music and dancing and now the bands have stopped, you don’t need to. The Ball Court have got it covered with sweet tunes to round out the night. [ INFO ]

For those on the other side of Hume and can’t make it to Sunbury Festival, why not go down memory lane and relive the yesteryear of when Guns and Roses rocked Calder Park and made memories of strangers getting together suffering heat stroke, bad hair cuts and a lack of water. A day that changed a generation and cemented the Gunner’s as Rock legends. [ INFO ]
