Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area). Another edition of your weekly skim for positive news, weekend plans and community highlights that you think is important, or that you actually care about.

In this week’s Humepulse edition:

The hot topic of the day is Data centres, the Campbellfield site is one that impacts the area the most at the moment. The Council meeting that was held this week had the largest turnout of residents to attend a meeting, with 7 residents who spoke about the impacts on their lives and the area. The Council unanimously agreed to go to governmnet to get a moratorium on the building of data centres and asked that certain conditions be met to understand the impacts to our community. This was not an isolated problem as we have seen data centres pop up across all of Melbourne. [ INFO ] [ INFO ]

We thought we would add events that are free or cost very little to attend. Check out the Council Calendar for this week. [ INFO ]

This weekend crafters, scrapbookers and makers will attend the Paperific arts and crafts Expo at the Hyatt in Essendon Fields. The event will be filled with a weekend of workshops, shopping, inspiration and community. This event is for anyone interested in the art of making handmade art pieces for sale, a hobby or for gift giving. In the day of “digital everything” the skill of making something is a skill for life. [ INFO ]

This annual art show is not your usual art show. On the surface it is an art show but the difference is the age of the artists. A lot of the artists are in retirement stage of life and the show is held at Bridgewater Lake Retirement Estate. This art show will have a substantial amount of works. They have gathered 300 artworks from nearly 60 artists. This show is for eveyone and provides a chance to see some great local talent. This is a must see event as the works are not just paintings but all forms of media like photography and mosaic pieces as well. [ INFO ] [ INFO ]

The Greenvale food truck park across the road from the shopping centre was shut down this week. The locals took to facebook to vent their anger at the decision and accusations were starting to fly around that they were the target of a business dobbing them in. The fact of the matter is that they didn’t have a permit from the council to trade. I’m sure this was an over sight and the food truck will be back up and running as soon as they sort out the permits. [ there was no link for this story ]

This week an annoucement was made that A Wellbeing Hub was being built in Essendon Fields. This Hub will include Allied Health Suites, Gym Facilities and a new style’ of Health and fitness facilities all in the same place. The building also allows the Vet hospital to expand as well. Think of a super centre for health. [ INFO ]

This business has been through some ups and downs over the past years. They were caught up in a fire bombing attack a couple of years ago only to find out it was a case of mistaken identity. The damage to the shop was so extensive that it took them over 2 years to rebuild. This story of trumph is built on family with a strong extended family behind them and not to mention a strong community as well. This lebanese sweets shop has some of the best ranges of sweets you can find anywhere in Melbourne and we are lucky they are here in Roxburgh Park. The Grand opening was last week with a turnout that was bigger than a FIFA soccer match. Well maybe,not as much as that but you get the picture. It was an emotional opening with the family paying respects to their family members who have helped them rebuild and the legacy they have left. Support this business and try out all of their menu. They also offer a savoury menu and I hear they have great coffee as well. Wink Wink. [ INFO ]

This Section is about informing everyone about how Data centres are causing a risk to our health and changing the area we all live in and love. I have been tracking what is going on for the whole area. Please let me know if you’d like me to write anything in particular.

Sunbury has been quite vocal about not having a waste to incinerator facitity, with residents believing it would destroy the very tight knit community and the nature of the surburb. To the surprise of everyone, when they found out that the very same company has been tossing up whether to re-do a new proposal for a data centre and some housing as well in the same parcel of land, where the proposed waste to energy incinerator is to be built. It’s seems the company in question just wants to extract all they can from the place all in the name of profit. [ INFO ] [ INFO ]
