Hume Council News & Events

Rates Debt Blowout

During this week’s council meeting, one major issue caught my attention and that was the rates issue the residents are facing. Rates is a dirty word to some, but the sobering figures that were disclosed this week, shows that residents are hurting but also entering into payment arrangements. I am always thinking that the council should be doing better with delivering services but it goes to show how hard it is to deliver something that we all can’t afford. [ INFO ]

Hume clean pop up events

Let’s test your recycling knowledge. Do you know what bin soft plastic goes into? Me either, Apparently it goes into the rubbish. Confusing I know, so the Council are doing a series of POP UP Events to help everyone workout the “what goes into what bin”. Also, you can win prizes, if you have a go at the wheel of recycling. I hope one of the prizes is that the council waives your rates for year!! Now wouldn’t that be a prize worth winning. [ INFO ]

Spring School Holiday Program

With School holidays now in the full swing, we thought we would give you some variety of activities. [ INFO ]

Calendar of Freebies

We thought we would add events that are free or cost very little to attend. Check out the Council Calendar for this week [ INFO ]

Hume Local News

More buses, but is it enough?

Our area is growing rapidly, from new suburbs, in between suburbs, to new estates with limited infrastructure which means, we have extra people using transport of their choice and not everyone has a car. It was great to see this week the announcement of meaningful bus services being added to our ever expanding Hume area. Trips around the place will be just a little easier with 641 additional bus services rolling out from Sunday, October 5th. [ INFO ]

No more 1000 steps

This one has me a bit peeved to say the least. I think we don’t have enough fitness equipment in parks, like weight machines and the like. I think we all deserve to have the choice to live healthier without it costing us the earth. This week the council decided to squash the 1000 steps fitness circuit idea. All of our suburbs could do with free fitness equipment to use at our leisure and to live healthier lives. It seems the council didn’t have a clear plan or idea and it is now being either reinvented or watered down to suit budgets. [ INFO ]

Humes Best kept secret

I’m a bit conflicted, I want everyone to know how awesome this area is but, I don’t want them to know how awesome this place is, and I have found proof, of how good it is. I found a story that shows that there is one suburb that everyone forgets about and the residents are super happy and don’t leave. Can you guess what suburb it is? [ INFO ]

School Holiday Picks

Adrenaline for Kids

Powerplay are a new Go Kart track in campbellfield and great fun for everyone. The new facility have all new go karts that are electric so no nasty fumes like the old days. Give the kids something to talk about when they go back to school. [ INFO ]

AFL to the Max in Tullamarine.

It has finally arrived in Tullamarine!! The new “AFL MAX” venue is for kids to have a footy themed fun session. You can have a party or just a general session. The best way I can describe it is, it’s “Auskick on steroids” and if you want the kiddies to have a good night sleep, then this is the place. Located near Essendon Football ground and UrbnSurf. Royal Melbourne Show

The classic Royal melbourne Show is a family favourite. Jump on a few rides, eat some great food, yes, including fairy floss, pat some lambs and walk around to all the events. Oh, and don’t forget to get a Bertie Beetle showbag and make some great family memories. [ INFO ]

Hume Business

Happy Bakers Grand Opening

I am obsessed with this new place. It has the best croissants in the area and has been compared to lune in Fitzroy, which always has a line around the block. If you don’t want to wait an hour to get a high end croissant and some pastries, I am going to Airport West everyday of the week to get my fix. Have I also mentioned, they have great coffee, a Bathurst winning owner, an accomplished pastry chef and loaded pies. [ INFO ]

Discover the New Mickleham Market

Not to be mistaken for Marnong Estate Market, this new market is more for the locals and to showcase more produce and products from the area. It’s 2nd market is on this Saturday and will be on every 4th Saturday of the month. It looks like the weather gods should be good to us. See you there, I will be in a Humepulse Jumper. [ INFO ]

Restaurant pick of the Week

RiceScoop

If you’re a foodie or you just want good food and want a decent place to go, you would most likely go into the city or close to it, right? Well, what if i told you to head in a different direction, and discover your local area and check out a Thai restaurant in Sunbury. You would think I am bonkers and that there would be no such place. I have discovered a treasure trove of new eateries and well kept secrets in Sunbury, the first one i have tried is Ricescoop. They have a 4.5 star review rating and the best Massaman Curry Beef I have tasted in a long time. It is easy to get a parking spot and the decor is relaxing and modern. They are also reasonably priced. I recommend going there you won’t be disappointed. [ INFO ]
