Hume Council News & Events

Cr Kurt travel expenses rejected

Cr Kurt was invited to attend another politicians maiden speech in Canberra. The submitted travel expenses were knocked back by a vote of the council. The sum of $500 dollars is not a large amount of money and not an unusual request. The Council put it to a vote and was supported by Cr Gagen, Cr Sherry and Cr Haddad, the other Councillors Moore, Watson, Overend and English voted against it. Cr Hamley abstained from voting, Mayor Bell and Cr Misho were absent. [ INFO ]

Keep Hume Clean Campaign

We all see it everyday and it is the scourge of our beautiful and awesome place. Just this week I saw a local facebook group filming a mum and her daughter dumping rubbish in the street. I keep thinking it is scrupulous operators but it is also the locals. The Council spend 5 million of our rates dollars a year to tackle rubbish dumping. I could think of 5 million other ways the money could be spent on better things. Now the Council is asking the community to volunteer to be in a video to help foster a sense of pride in the place. If only the dumpers could see the place through my eyes and see how awesome the place is and people in it. There is an application you need to fill out. If you want to participate in the video click here [ INFO ]

Calendar of Freebies

We thought we would add events that are free or cost very little to attend. Check out the Council Calendar for this week [ INFO ]

DID YOU KNOW?

Ever wanted to know what it was like way back when Planes were shiny and looked like marvels of engineering, because they were held together by rivets? Not Me either!! But I am fascinated at what would help them stay in the air and not crash into each other.

It just so happens that the hume area has an Aviation Museum that is not like any other. It is dedicated to the behind the scenes and the rich collection of stories of what made aviation tick.

This Weekend the Airways Museum will be open this SATURDAY, 26 July 2025, from 11am to 3pm. [ INFO ]

The Museum shows you the historical hidden infrastructure of things like Aeradio, Flight Service, Air Traffic Control, radio, navigation aids, radar, airport lighting and much more.

The Museum is also open in conjunction with Essendon Fields Open House Airport terminal. You get to experience 100+ years of Aviation history. [ INFO ]

A Hume Suburb gets a bad accolade. What is it?

An article this week listed the top suburbs that are hazardous for your health to live in. Although you might be imagining the usual stereotypes we see in the media, you would be mistaken. It turns out that noise pollution is a major health issue and affects your well being. So what suburb is it? Airport West. [ INFO ]

1919 Lanzhou

A new taste has come to Broadmeadows. The Chinese Lanzhou Beef Noodle Bar is based on a secret recipe perfected over years giving you deep, rich and clean flavours in every bowl.

Using traditional methods the broth is paired with hand-pulled noodles and ingredients that meticulously crafts an authentic culinary experience.

If you are looking for a new clean eating experience this is a must try. [ INFO ]

Minioso

This new shop is something I would see in Asia. Instead of going to Asia, it has come to us, well, Broadmeadows anyway. Minioso is a mixture of Japanese, Korean and Chinese products for kids up to teens. It is worth having a look even to get that different feeling when you step inside. I did, and I thought I was in Japan. [ INFO ]
