Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area).
The Long weekend is here and everyone knows it’s March Madness. (unless you have been living under a rock)😁. With so many events going on like the F1, Moomba, The Flower & Garden show, AFL, etc, etc. Then you would think there would be nothing going on locally but I have you covered. It might not be as glitzy or glamourous but supporting local always gives you that warm heart feeling. So whatever you choose to do? Hopefully I will see you out there and say Hi, I will be wearing the Hume pulse tshirt.

Council fights for a voice
In the recent Council Meeting agreed to increase their voice on the federal and state planning, regarding data centres in the Hume region. This issue has been steadiliy increasing due to the digital gold rush that the Tech sector are chasing. The Hume area already has a few Data Centres and 2 other projects in propasal stage. Land has been acquired to then house data centres at a later date in Mickleham.
Cr Kurt sounded the alarm late last year and it seems that he has been right in his assesment of this so called digial gold rush. My biggest worry is the water that these facilities use and where they plan to get it from? We just got Greenvale reservoir back as a place to enjoy. [ INFO]
Get ready for rubbish in the streets
This week is the start of pay negotiations by various councils and Hume Council is one of them. The Australian Services Union is asking for a 10% pay increase and has already filed for protected action. If things drag on we might have rubbish piling up and our libraries empty if it drags out. Somerton Milestone
If you go past Somerton or through Somerton along the Hume highway you can’t miss the enormous Gantry’s. This week the final Gantry was finished at the back of the site of the new Melbourne Intermodal Terminal (ITC). From the front you can only see the 4 gantry’s but there are another 3 in the back section which brings the total to seven. Originally they were supposed to have 12 Gantry’s but as plans change, they only have the seven. (ITC) are almost fully functional and have trains already picking up cargo and taking it to the Port. This means we should start to see a reduction of trucks on the roads in the surrounding areas. [ INFO ]
