Jacksons Hill Fight

The Sunbury Asylum Buildings on Jacksons Hill have been sold to Channel Nine for the show the Block. They are heritage listed and this week the Council have called for an urgent meeting to discuss the application. Cr Bell posted on facebook “it is a large and incredibly complex precinct with deep historical and social significance to Sunbury”. The local community are also not to happy about it as the buildings could be put to better use than to have them as private houses. The fear is that the heriatge and history will be lost forever. They are calling for a better use of the buildings like a redevelopment into a tourist site.

Broadmeadows Remembrance Memorial

After vandals had stolen the plates off the memorial a few months back, this week saw new ones refitted. The new plates are just as good if not better but are made from aluminium. So they are not worth stealing again just to make some quick money. [ INFO ]

Sunbury Show is Back

Sunbury comes together to put on a fantastic day. It’s the closest you’ll get to a real agricultural show, that is so close to the suburbs and it just so happens to be closer to us. This is a fun-filled family day complete with sideshow rides, farmyard animals, show cooking, craft entries, live music, market stalls and loads of carnival fun. I do remember last year the Mayor, back then Jarrod Bell having a go at some cooking. If you need some more info click [ HERE ]

Pedigree and Scar Adoption Weekend

Pedigree x SCAR is shining a spotlight on the vital work shelters and rescue organisations do every day caring for vulnerable pets. A lot of what people take for granted is that SCAR ( Second Chance Animal Rescue ) are tirelessly working in the background. If you have the means to love and care for a pet then you would be giving a special furbaby a well deserved forever home. What’s not to love about that! [ INFO ]

Games District has moved

I used to dismiss the card gamer thing thinking it was a nerdy type of a hobby. Boy! was I wrong!!. These guys have gone from strength to strength the demand was that strong they had to move to a larger premises. Who knew that card playing was such a popular thing to do? I think I have a bit of FOMO now and will definitely be paying them a visit to see what all the fuss is about. From what I have seen so far it’s a great way to meet new and friendly people and have a bit of fun all at the same time. [ INFO ]

Marnong Estate Craft Market

Westmeadows Datacentre?

There seems to be some confusion on whether Westmeadows will be getting a datacentre. After scouring the internet based on a facebook groups enquiry, I found a permit dated 2023 for a hyperscale datercentre. After having done some more digging there were some locals who speculated that the datcentre proposal was no longer active. So here is what I found…. the original proposal was for a datercentre which was fast tracked by the state government. There are 3 permits to consider with this parcel of land and MAB ( the building company ) have opted to make it into an Industrial estate instead called Haystone. The industrial Estate comprises of 40 blocks. The site was rezoned, part industrial, part Public and recreation zone. There is another permit attached to the site for amendements to some lanscaping and drainage works. So the million dollar question is, will there be a datecentre in Westmeadows? The answer…. it is still possible and here’s why. Although the MAB have a Masterplan estate called Haystone and there are 40 parcels of land for purchase a datercentre developer could still buy a mega parcel of land because they have an active permit that would allow it to happen. The more those blocks get sold off the more likely we won’t get a datacentre so let’s cheer on the little guy who needs a small warehouse and hopefully they buy one asap.
