Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area). Another edition of your weekly skim for positive news, weekend plans and community highlights that you think is important, or that you actually care about.

With Spring now in full swing, we have the Grand final coming up and the start of schools holidays. It’s like we are just getting started on renewal or a rejuvenation of sorts. The weather has been amazing for the most of it, still a little cold but at least not wet and windy. (I know it’s Melbourne and the 4 seasons thing) but I have been revelling in the sun lit days. It just lifts me up and gives me a sense of extra energy to go out and enjoy things. See you out there.

With the ongoing strike and the growing fustration of all of us ratepayers. The bottleneck to the ongoing negotiations is the multiple councils as a single employer entity. What it means is that even if the Hume council wanted to end the dispute and pay a higher wage they can’t because all the other councils have to agree as well. I’m a ratepayer and believe everyone who works for a living should get a fair wage. I would be happy to pay my fellow community members a little more if it meant they could clothe,feed their familyand have a roof over their heads. This event highlights and creates awarenes for suicide prevention. The family of Steven Callahan have created a not for profit to honour the memory of Steven and to help those who are also feeling at risk in times of darkness. The Westmeadows community were fortunate to know Steven and welcome everyone to join in on the walk. The walk is nine kilometers to represent the nine people we lose daily to mental illness. The first session is called Energy XXIX and the second session is called Overkill. See a full afternoon of back cracking, pole driving action with a few chair smashings and whole heap of turnbuckle bouncing. Watch the young up and comers who make Andre the Giant look like a little boy. Watch the States Champion, Rocco Reid, and our Alpha Energy Cup Champion, Mason Stoneheart, dish out the punishment. You know school holidays are close by when the Pockets Kids Rave is on. Last time the rave was on, it was a smash hit and there were plenty of kids dancing and purely having a time of their lives. In the latest articles about data centers I found this article that will increase commercial leases for warehouses. Now everyone might say “So what” and what a lot of people might not be aware of is that logistics and any business that use a warehouses for their operations are already struggling with keeping costs down to stay competitive. The Sydney market is already at stretching point and some companies have moved their operations to Melbourne because it’s cheaper. If Data centers are going to increase pressure on warehouses then expect food prices to be apart of the extra we have to pay. Just to have the privilege of a energy/ water guzzling machine in our suburbs [ INFO ]
