Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area).

Well! How two weeks makes a difference !! The holiday was brief. 😫

The start to the year has not been pleasant to say the least with the major weather events causing half the Hume area to be on alert. I must admit, although these are emotional times you get to see the best Hume’ns protecting our beautiful patch. It brings home just how much of the Hume area is Rural and susceptible to fire. I thank the CFA, emergency services, volunteers and the fire Brigade for the tireless work they do.

I brought an ambo a coffee the other day to say thankyou. I’m not suggesting everyone to do that but at least go up to them and acknowledge you appreciate their efforts. It looks like we are going to need them more than ever in February according to weather forecasts.

In this week’s Humepulse edition:

  • Westmeadows hotel

  • Taffic light system for local pools

  • One for the Kids

    and more …..

Hume Council News & Events

Westmeadows gets a hotel

Councillor Naim Kurt posted today that a Westmeadows hotel project has been approved by the goverment despite 249 objections. A sneaky clause definition takes the decision out of the hands of the Council. The project that has been approved is for a three-storey residential hotel (81 rooms). [ INFO ]

I’m wondering if they will use the same clause to get the Sunbury Incinerator approved? [ INFO ]

local pools regulate overcrowding

The last hot spell has caused the Council to implement a traffic light system to regulate the amount of people who can use the local pools at any one time. The traffic light system will be posted on social media by the council. A few disgruntled patrons last week got caught out and were told to go to another pool which was 20km’s away. [ INFO ]

Amazon re-ignited and two years late

Amazon’s flagship robotic fulfilment centre in Craigieburn, Melbourne, has been delayed by two years, with its opening now pushed to mid-2027. The significant setback stems from the financial collapse of the project's original builder, Roberts Co (Victoria), which stalled progress when the facility was approximately 65 per cent complete. To resume construction, Amazon and its development partner, ESR, have appointed Multiplex as the new main contractor to complete the works.

Once finished, the facility is set to be the largest warehouse in the Southern Hemisphere, spanning 209,000 square metres across four levels. The project represents a massive investment, with an estimated $400 million allocated for construction and a further $400 million for the advanced robotics and automation technology inside. While the delay hinders Amazon's immediate capacity growth in Victoria, the site remains a critical component of the company's long-term logistics strategy for Australia. [ INFO ]
