Ford Exhibition at Broadmeadows Museum

If you have lived in the Hume area for any length of time you would know that the Ford Factory is apart of our local history. Many a local residents have worked there over the years. The Factory was closed down in 2016. The closure was the end of an era for car manufacturing and also the lifeblood to many.

The Broadmeadows Museum are holding an exhibition to honour the importance of this history and to showcase the rich stories and the people of this time.

To honour this legacy, the Broadmeadows Museum will be hosting the exhibition from 4th October to 15th December.

To kick off the exhibition, which has been developed with the assistance of Ford Australia, across the weekend of the 4th and 5th of October, a Car Show will be on display showcasing an array of Ford vehicles produced at Broadmeadows.

Say No to Waste Incenerator

Sunbury and Bulla have got a fight on thier hands. A “Waste to Energy” Incinerator is being proposed by HiQ (formerly Hi-Quality). A new group has been formed to fight this project as it puts the area at risk of increased pollution and adverse health effects. The local council has been stripped of the planning controls and it is now in the hands of the state government, they have the decision making power for the project to be built.

Why this affects all of Hume? We have had some major building infrastructure projects of late and in the future there are more being proposed, like data centres and new suburbs. All of these projects are starting to put pressure on our water supply. If you think our water is precious then this group would be worth joining. I for one, don’t want to start paying for water out of a plastic bottle. (Our basic right to survival - water! - As if we need a new indirect tax, forced to buy water in a plastic bottle). NO THANKS! Humes Local Heroes

Each week, it strikes me how generous this area is. I discovered that we all have a big heart and support those in need. Why I am blown away is, we have locals going above and beyond for others. The Hume area has a generous spirit, and nobody points that out. Thank you, Awesome Hume’ns. Although this week is a bit different as I wanted to highlight someone who is overcoming obstacles.

Austism, Community and Healing

Isla, the creative force behind Isla Maes Corner, has transformed personal obstacles into a story of empowerment through her handmade accessories business. After experiencing school bullying, Isla found a therapeutic outlet in crafting. This journey was championed by her family, who turned shared creative time, into a safe space for her to heal and open up. By her side at every market, they help manage the logistical and emotional challenges, such as overstimulation, always reinforcing that her autism and Triple X syndrome make her "extra special."

This unwavering family support, paired with the warm embrace of the local market community, created the perfect environment for Isla to thrive. Fellow vendors welcomed her, building a supportive network that helped her overcome her shyness. Bolstered by this sense of belonging, Isla has blossomed from a reserved creator into a confident young entrepreneur, demonstrating how a community can help turn challenges into triumphs.

Isla’s story is much bigger than we had space, so we posted her full story on facebook. [ INFO ]
