Hello Hume’ns (The awesome people of the Hume area). Another edition of your weekly skim for positive news, weekend plans and community highlights that you think is important, or that you actually care about.

I know, I know, it’s Grand Final weekend and you are also going on holidays and taking the kids somewhere to have family fun. Well for those of us that are not doing the holiday thing we have plenty to do right here at home. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy and have a good one and I will see you out there.

The Council meeting was held on 14th September and the below topics were discussed. We needed more than bullet points this time because there was too much to cover this week.

1. State Proposal for Mickleham Road and Craigieburn West Infrastructure Plan.

2. Joint Council meeting about Cloverton Metropolitan Activity Centre.

3. Tackling Youth Crime in Hume Notice of Motion.

4. Sunbury Road Upgrade Notice of Motion.

5. Litter and Dumping Notice of Motion.

6. Congratulations and Condolences.

The biggest topics that stood out for me was the Notice of Motion on tackling youth crime and the litter Dumping. for more info [ CLICK HERE ]

We thought we would add events that are free or cost very little to attend. Check out the Council Calendar for this week. [ INFO ]

To boost the police numbers Reservists have been deployed to free up serving police officers. Reservists will be working at police station public counters and will be performing back-of-house duties, allowing serving officers to be released into the community. [ INFO ]

The Council is holding an event in conjunction with the clothing exchange. It’s a sustainable way to provide inspiration to help you save money, reduce waste and make the most of the things you already own. I don’t see these often in our area but these events happen all the time on the other side of town. This is how the vintage clothing movement started and is going strong to this day. I should know, a family member has a vinatge clothing online shop. You don’t have to spend a heap of cash to look good. [ INFO ]

This kid just goes from strength to strength. Let’s have a look at what he has achieved.

Now Harley is at again and this time he is raising funds for abandoned animals. The campaign is called Situp for Strays. Lets get behind him so he can achieve another goal. Starting next week and ongoing through all of October is the seniors festival. The festival has plenty of events on to cater for evryone, from movie matinees to pickling workshops and closing with a Halloween Rock Spooktackular dance event. [ INFO ] For the different event details [ CLICK HERE ]

This one is the pick of the bunch. Although, there are watch partys at just about every pub in the Hume area this one is a watch party with and after party as well. You get the best of both worlds by watching the game and then getting up to have a dance, some great food and a few more drinks, to either keep celebrating or have a couple extra to drown your sorrows. Either way the atmosphere is what makes a place and these guys always put on a great event. [ INFO ]

Well that’s what the tagline is for the new craze to do with LEGO. when I saw this I was confused because the ad said i’m the trainer? But Lego is plastic bricks right? Well, not now they have put electronics into it, what they call it now is a smart brick and your creation comes alive. [ INFO ] [ INFO ]

So from the 22nd - 26th of September between 10am - 2pm each day near JD Sports, the Lego crew will be there to help your kids have fun and learn while you sit down and relax and have coffee or a boost juice.

Lets go on a holiday without paying for tickets and having to deal with jetlag. Let your taste buds travel instead, how about we go on a latin trip. It is very rare we get anything that is different in the area. But… when I heard that this new authentic place was setting up shop in the far parts of our area, I was full of glee and like a little kid on Christmas night. I couldn’t wait till I had a chance to go there and that chance is this weekend because they have a Grand Opening in Keilor. You might have seen them on Postcards or have been to their 1st shop in St Albans. I have tasted empanadas before in the back streets of Brunswick and they were so good, when it closed down I was left wanting and that was years ago. Our area is starting to become a foodie destination and Latin Street foods will be added to the list. I think I might have to put together a foodie guide of the area! What do you think? Grand Opening September 26th - 9am - 4pm - 4/662 Old Calder Hwy Keilor

This Section is about informing everyone about how Data centres are causing a risk to our health and changing the area we all live in and love. I have been tracking what is going on for the whole area. Please let me know if you’d like me to write anything in particular.

This week Premier Carroll proposed a new set of restrictions for data centres. At first glance it’s a step in the right direction but when you actually dig into the specifics it’s just enough, so that the data centre industry can get away with building the monstrosities they propose. Moving the data centre away just enough to quell noise complaints or to deem it enough space away from childcare centres. (Is the move enough to keep anyone safer from a fire event? Ask Coolaroo residents and they will tell you!) Bring in their own water? (then what if it’s not enough water and it’s deemed a critical infrastructure? Whose water do they use then?) Bring your own energy? ( This is an easy one to put in, until the power demand outstrips their system and then they switch to our grid. So, at first glance it seems to be great but to me it’s only window dressing to quieten down the loud voices. [ INFO ]
